Yatala Labour Prison
Yatala Labour Prison (YLP) is the state’s metropolitan induction and reception prison.
It accommodates male high to medium security prisoners.
It can also accommodates low security prisoners and those in protective custody.

Special visiting arrangements
Length of visit sessions vary depending upon unit
Maximum of three visitors at a time.
Yatala Labour Prison has lockers which require a $1 coin - which is refunded on exit.
Professional visit bookings can be made through Professional Visits Booking Officer on (08) 8343 0263 or by emailing DCSProfessionalVisitBooking@sa.gov.au.
A professional visit request form is then sent for completion and return to YLP for approval prior to admission.
Bookings can be made between 08:00 – 12:00 and 13:00 – 16:30 on weekdays.
The professional visiting times available vary in each division, however visit times are generally 09:00 – 11:00 and 13:30 – 15:30, seven days per week.
Professional visiting times for the YLP Infirmary are on weekdays 9:00 – 11:00 and 13:30 – 15:30.
Professional visit bookings must be made through the infirmary.
G Division and the Infirmary do not routine weekend visits.
Phone link visits may be booked for prisoners accommodated in B and E divisions.
All legal representatives who are approved professional visitors at YLP and have registered for may participate.
Legal representatives are required to agree to the code of conduct.
The phone link aims to improve prisoner access to legal services and provides an additional method of access for professional visitors, assisting to eliminate the time spent travelling to and from the location.
Phone links are limited to 20 minutes to enable prisoner movements before the next phone link is due to commence.
A double appointment may be requested for 50 minutes.
Legal representatives will be verified by caller ID when they make their call into the prison.

YLP manages a video conferencing facility, which allows prisoners to appear before the court via audio-visual link (AVL) without the need to leave the prison.
Access control to YLP includes biometric verification (using an iris or fingerprint scan), a Roto turn metal detector, X-ray scanning of approved personal items, an explosive and narcotics trace detector and Hisec 9 entry/exit booths.
Please note - lockers at Yatala Labour Prison require a one dollar coin, which is refundable upon exit.
